Why donate?

Mid City Nutrition Program is a nonprofit soup kitchen serving the hungry of St. Clair County Michigan since September 1987. In that time we have gradually grown from serving one meal a few days a week to serving meals every day. Last year we served 63,925 meals in our facility, distributed approximately 418,447 pounds of food through our kitchen and mobile food pantries, and shared 2,022 meals with other organizations. In our 30 years of existence we have operated out of the basement of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. Though they have graciously hosted for all these years we have out grown the space available and are in the process of moving.

Moving will not only allow us to better serve our clients in the kitchen, it will also allow us to expand our mission. We will expand from one to two fully function kitchens. We will increase our storage and client service areas as well as create space for future partnerships with other organizations in our community. We will offer cooking classes targeted at nutrition and healthy living and offer a kitchen space that can be rented and used for multiple purposes. As a result of our services our clients will: make healthy lifestyle choices, cook more meals in their home, discover new healthy food options, learn to stretch their food dollar, and have an improved understanding of food and nutrition.

We are asking for help obtaining funds to purchase the kitchen equipment for our new building. We are in need of everything from worktables to freezers we estimate the cost of new equipment will be around $180,000.  We need $334,800 for the new building and $117,150 for the interior. Any help we receive will be greatly appreciated.
