Mid City Nutrition Program is a nonprofit soup kitchen serving the hungry of St. Clair County Michigan since September 1987. In that time we have gradually grown from serving one meal a few days a week to serving meals every day. We have operated out of the basement of St Martin Lutheran church for the past 37 years, and will move into our new dedicated facility in early 2025.
Moving will not only allow us to better serve our clients in the kitchen, it will also allow us to expand our mission. We will expand from one to two fully function kitchens. We will increase our storage and client service areas as well as create space for future partnerships with other organizations in our community. We will offer cooking classes targeted at nutrition and healthy living and offer a kitchen space that can be rented and used for multiple purposes. As a result of our services our clients will: make healthy lifestyle choices, cook more meals in their home, discover new healthy food options, learn to stretch their food dollar, and have an improved understanding of food and nutrition.
We need your help as we make the final push to complete our new building, as construction costs rose steadily during our project. We also always need help with operations, as we are supported almost entirely by individual donations and grants. Over the past few years we have doubled how many meals we serve, and need continues to grow in our community.
